A BTS look at the full commercial electrical fit out we're delivering in Coomera
When the new build in Coomera was first designed as a medical centre, no one expected its next chapter to be a modern head office for a local growing company. But that's exactly what's happening and SONA Electrical is right in the middle of it, delivering the full electrical, lighting, data and security fit out from the ground up.
For us, this is the kind of project that makes commercial work fun. A blank canvas, a clear brief from the architects at DLH Design and a real opportunity to help shape a workplace that actually feels great to spend the day in.
What's going in
Across the building, our team is fitting out nine distinct zones, each with its own electrical character.
Three separate offices. Each room is lit up with sufficient led lighting, plenty of double power outlets and clean data drops at every desk position. Rooms can be set up however the team prefers, then easily reconfigured down the track.
A staff section. Open, flexible and powered up for the way people actually work. Generous USB-C charging outlets sit alongside standard double GPOs so phones, laptops and monitors all live happily on the desks at the same time.
A seminar seating area. Layered, dimmable lighting and clean cable management mean the room can switch easily between training, presentations and Friday team meetings without anyone fiddling with extension leads.
A large foyer. First impressions matter. Recessed down lights and a tidy switchboard layout so the space looks as sharp as it functions.
A board room. Wired for serious AV ... HDMI outlets, dual data points, LED lighting and the right power layout for a clean, glare-free table setup.
A dedicated Zoom meeting room. The room every modern office now needs. Wireless access points overhead, structured data behind the screen and lighting tuned to look good on camera with zero fluorescent flicker.
A staff lunch room. Microwave, fridge, dishwasher, kettle, ZIP boiling water unit, oven, stove, all properly circuited out so nobody ever has to fight over a single power point at lunchtime.
A unisex / accessible bathroom. Built to compliance, with motion sensor lighting, plenty of space, shower and hand dryer.
Two additional toilets. Quiet, well lit and properly ventilated, the small details that quietly make an office a nicer place to work.
Behind the walls
The unsexy stuff is just as important as everything you can see. Behind the finishes we're also installing:
- A new switchboard sized for the building's full load
- Power and communications across the ceiling space
- CCTV cameras, alarms, motion detectors and card reader access tied into an integrated security panel
- AS 2293-compliant exit and emergency lighting throughout
- NBN connection ready from day one
Every cable run, conduit and fitting on this job is mapped out on engineered drawings, meaning the office isn't just being built once, it's being built so future changes are simple too. New desk layout in three years? Easy. Extra meeting room? No problem.
